Comparison of models for predicting cleaning of viscoplastic soil layers by impinging coherent turbulent water jets

Different approaches to model the cleaning of (i) very thin and (ii) soil layers by impinging water jets are compared evaluate their predictive capabilities. Cleaning experiments were performed with coherent 2 mm 3 diameter (Re > 10,000) on flat an insoluble, viscoplastic petroleum jelly. The jelly exhibited creep below yield stress Herschel-Bulkley behaviour above it. A two-film shear-driven for case gave poor capability, partly due complex rheology. Case data modified versions phenomenological Fernandes Wilson (2020), a fully-coupled CFD liquid motion using volume fluid method. modifications former did not improve its accuracy. latter good prediction initial considered: high computational cost precluded extensive testing.
